Women are an integral part of a society. They play an important role in determining the destiny of a nation. But history reveals that women have not been given their due status in the society. Even in ancient times, they were supposed to be under the protective control of some one of the other male member of the family. When the human resource is concerned, women empowerment is with equal opportunity is of paramount important. Challenges are many, starting from social to the political, from tribal to the minority, from ignorance to empowerment, from education to economical, from rural to the work place of corporate level of responsibility. The dream of empowering women can only come true when each and every section of the society will be free from gender bias. There is a need to adopt an integrated approach towards the upliftment and empowerment of women which will bring about gender equality and distributive justice in the society. The remedy for empowerment lies in a strong will power and a gender- just reform in the whole system covering the major interrelated issues of economic welfare, social justice, education, health and traditions or spirituality. In this volume we have tried to discuss almost all the issues related to the “Women Empowerment: A Myth or a Reality”.

Prabhat Kumar Singh a well known academic and research scientist, is presently HOD Department of Sociology in Ranchi University, Ranchi, Jharkhand. As a social scientist, he has also written innumerable research papers and articles for leading newspapers and journals of national and international repute. He has authored many outstanding books and awarded by many organizations for his outstanding contributions. In addition, he is also member of a number of internationally reputed learned societies. He has guided a number of research students, conducted specialized course and chaired various sessions.
Amit Bhowmick is presently Post Doctoral Research Fellow and HOD Department of Sociology in Nur Mohammad Smriti Mahavidyalaya, Murshidabad, West Bengal. Dr. Bhowmick has been involved in teaching for 12 years and attended several National and International Conferences or Symposia. He has contributed over a dozen articles in journals of National and International repute and authored many outstanding books. He is associated with many national as well as International Oganizations, chaired Sessions and visited many countries.
