About the book
The current book “Fundamentals of aromaticity-A simplified approach to understand aromatic behavior of organic compounds” is aimed towards meeting growing academic needs of post-graduate and under-graduate students in chemistry from different colleges and universities of India. The book discusses in great detail about the basic concepts of aromaticity in organic compounds using three-dimensional molecular structures along with depictions of the molecules using some advanced softwares like Chem-Draw, Gaussian, ACD-Labs, Chem Bio 3D ultra. At the end of each topic, a quick glance about the topic has been provided. Tables, figures and other illustrations have been used extensively in order to simplify the concepts.
The book has been written after repeated requests from students from various universities and colleges. It covers a wide range of topics with in-depth explanation of fundamental concepts. The collection of topics has been carefully chosen to reflect the diversity of recent advances in organic chemistry with a broad perspective which will be useful for scientists as well as for graduate and post-graduate students. The illustrations and figures are plentiful, appropriate, and well executed, that go to further the understanding of aromaticity while engaging the reader in its multi and interdisciplinary features. A separate topic on fullerenes has been provided, explaining their structures, preparation, bonding, properties and their extensive applications. At the end of the book, problems related to the subject have been provided along with solutions. The book also discusses some of the most recent concepts of aromaticity which are not found in most other books. Molecular orbital theory has been extensively used to explain the aromatic behaviour of organic compounds.
I am more than sure that the book is going to receive a huge response from students, teachers as well as researchers from all across the globe and especially from India.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Rather (M. Sc., M. Phil., SRF., Ph.D): Dr. Manzoor completed his Masters degree in Chemistry from Department of Chemistry, University of Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Then he started his research work with Prof. M.A. Qurishi (Former Dean and HOD in Kashmir University) and Dr. A.S. Shawl, former head-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM)-Sanat Nagar, Srinagar. Dr. Manzoor completed his Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in 2010 working on the important medicinal and aromatic plants of Kashmir. In 2014, he completed his Ph.D working on the isoprenoid natural products and their synergistic interactions with already approved anticancer drugs. The aim of the study was to investigate whether these natural products do enhance/diminish anticancer potential of clinically used anticancer drugs. In view of his excellent contributions, in March 2015, Dr. Rather was awarded the Young Scientist Award (YSA) in the field of chemical science by J & K State Science, Tehnology & Innovation Council, Govt. of India. He was awarded Senior Research Fellowship award in 2012 in the field of Chemical science by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Govt of India. He has also published 3 national and 25 international papers in journals of great repute and impact. Besides, Dr. Rather is also the author of 3 international and two national books. He is also editor of Phytomedicine- an international journal in plant based medicines, published from Germany. He is the potential reviewer of 20 national as well as international journals. Presently, He is serving as an Assistant professor in Chemistry, in the department of Chemistry, Islamic University of Science and Technology-Awanti Pora, Srinagar, India. His research papers have got more than 450 citations and is currently having h-index of 10 and i10-index of 11.
Mr. Adil Khursheed has completed his Masters in Chemistry from the Department of Physical Sciences, Lovely Professional University, Punjab-India. He has two publications and two books to his credit so far and is currently working with Dr. Rather.
